And we caught the blood-y Brit-ish in the

Town of New Or-leans

We fir’d once more and they beg-an to run-nin’

We look’d down the riv-er and we seed the Brit-ish come
  5 -6 -6 -6 -7 -6 6 5 -4 6 5 -4 -3 3
There must have been a hund-red of ‘em beat-in’ on the drum
  6 -7 -7 -8-7 6 6 -6 -7 -6 6 5
They stepped so high and they made their bugl-es ring
6 -6 -6 -6 -7 -6 6 5 -4 6 5 -4 -3 3
We stood be-hind our cot-ton bales and did-n’t say a thing

Chorus

6 -7 -8 -8 6 -6 -7 -6 6 5
Oh, Hick-‘ry said we’d take ‘em by su-prise
5 5 -6 -6 -6 -7 6 -5 5 -4 6
If we did-n’t fire our guns un-til we look’d
5 -4 -3 3
‘em in the eyes
6 -7 -7 -7 6 6 -6 -7 -6 5
We held our fire till we seed their faces well
  6 6 -6 -6 -6 -7 -6 -5 5 -4 6 5
Then we open-ed up our squir-rel guns and real-ly
-4 -3 3
gave ‘em hell

Chorus

7 -8 -8 -8 -8 -8
Well they ran through the briars
-8 -8 -8 -8 -7 -6 -6
And they ran through the bram-bles
-6 -6 -7 -8 -8 -8 -8 -8
And they ran through the bush-es where
-8 -8 -7 -6 -5 6
A rab-bit could-nt go
  6 -7 -8 -8 -8 -8 -8
They ran so fast that the hounds
  -8 -8 -6 6
Could-n’t catch them

Down the Mis-si-sip-pi to the gulf of Mex-i-co

6 -7 -8 -7 -7 6 6 -6 -7 -6 6 5
We fir’d our can-non till the bar-rel melt-ed down
  5 5 -6 -6 -6 -7 -6 -5 5 -4
Then we grabbed an al-li-ga-tor and we
  6 5 -4 3
fought a-nother round
6 -7 -7 -7 -8 -8 -7 6
We filled his head with cannon balls
6 -6 -7 -6 6 5
and powder-ed his be-hind
6 -6 -6 -6 -7 -6 -5 5
And when we touched the powder off
-4 6 5 -4 -3 3
the ga-tor lost his mind

Chorus

7 -8 -8 -8 -8 -8
Well they ran through the briars
